Ford FLTM BI 107-05

Thermal Shock Test for Adhesion

Ford FLTM BI 107-05

Why is this test used?

Ford FLTM BI 107-05 is a method used to evaluate the resistance of a coating to loss of adhesion from dramatic changes in temperature.

Equipment Required

This test utilizes a specially designed steam generator capable of providing a consistent flow rate, temperature, and pressure as specified in the test standard.  Nozzle size, and distance from the test specimen is also specified.  Assured Testing Services has a fully automated steam generation chamber that provides consistent, safe high pressure steam testing.

How is the test performed?

To perform the Ford FLTM Bi 107-05 test, samples are prepared with an X-scribe, and then pre-conditioned with an immersion and freezer step.  Once the samples have been pre-conditioned as specified in the standard, they are subjected to a steam blast directed at the scribe.  After exposure, the scribe is evaluated for adhesive performance and rated based on the area of coating removed from the scribe.

See the other steam and pressure washing testing performed by Assured Testing Services here.
